I found out today that I got selected to work the 2013 Women's A pool World Championships in Ottawa, Canada in April. Excited doesn't even come close to describing how I'm feeling right now. A pool is the top level IIHF event - the top 8 ranked teams in the world will be there. And since it is the year before the Olympics I'm sure this tournament will be a preview of what will be in Russia the following year. I say this all the time but I'll say it again, I never thought any of this was possible when I started. It is so gratifying to see my hard work paying off.
I must admit though, while I'm absolutely on cloud 9 about the assignment, I'm also a little sad. I'm sad that I couldn't call my Grandma this time to share the exciting news. I remember last year when I called her to tell her I got the tournament in Czech. She was so happy for me. It's one thing for your parents and friends to tell you they are proud, but it is another thing for someone you have such a huge amount of respect for tell you they are proud of you.
Although it may sound a little cliche, I've decided I'm dedicating my tournament to her this year. And I'll absolutely be writing my "letters" while I'm there! Let the training begin, tournament starts in 181 days. So psyched!
